Saturday, September 24, 2016, the Washington DC metropolitan area branch of the CCÉ, with sponsorship from The City of Fairfax and The City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts, presents the 21st Annual CCÉ Irish Folk Festival, in Fairfax, VA. All are invited to enjoy, free of charge, the “pure drop” - the beauty, depth, and excitement of Irish music and dance as it has taken root and come into full flower in our community.
Irish Language Workshop: Want to learn the basic rudiments of the Irish language and raise your interest level? Our 2016 festival offers an introductory short course on getting started with Irish. Let this be your time to be encouraged and motivated to take further full time Irish language courses being offered in the area or join active Irish social groups using the language. 2:00 at the Sherwood Center festival location. Mike Schaeffer is the instructor.
Irish Flute Workshop: Irish flute and whistle players ALERT!!! The great Roscommon flute player Patsy Hanly will not only perform at the CCE festival, but he will also give two workshops the morning of Sept. 24 at the Auld Shebeen Pub's library nook. Level One: 10:30-11:15 AM. Level Two: 11:15-noon. Fee is $ 20. Just show up with cash, or register with Betsy O'Malley (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Irish Fiddle Workshop: And for the fiddlers too! Renowned New York fiddler Rose Conway Flanagan will conduct a master class workshop in the activity room at the Sherwood Center festival location. 3:30 PM, Fee is $20.
